We have an onsite DECD Universal Access Pre-school program with a four year Bachelor’s Degree Early Childhood Teacher.
Our curriculum is inspired by the principles of Reggio Emilia and based on the Early Years Learning Framework. Through research projects, the program scaffolds children’s learning and essential to this is; the development of quality relationships based on trust; the development of values and attitudes; the development of a child’s confidence and optimism; and a sense of respectful citizenship within our community. Integral to this is the development of strong partnerships with parents to foster a shared vision of their child as a dynamic leader in their own learning. The Early Years Learning Framework underpins the planning for children’s formal learning and preparedness for school. The goals of the curriculum are both explicit and implicit within our Philosophy which underpins all pedagogical decisions of our service.
The program is a dynamic process for educators, children and families. This means programs and planning are directed by children’s ideas and investigations into their world.
The program encompasses every aspect of each child’s day whilst at our Centre. It includes the family, community, routines and interactions, the curriculum framework (Early Years Learning Framework), and the National Quality Standards. Embedded in this is respect for the rights of the child; the nurturing of trusting relationships between the child and the educator; a dynamic and progressive learning environment; predictable flows of routines, and continuity (transitions) between every stage of each child’s development leading to the preschool / school environment. The curriculum fosters citizenship within our Centre community and the wider community. It encompasses cultural competence and an appreciation of the heritage of the land and the connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander’s to the land.
